While traveling through Indonesia, Mila Alexander discovered the Gumoil technique—a rare and expressive process that fuses photography with painting. She undertook a residency at Gumoil Studios in Bali, where this latest collection was born.
The Gumoil process involves coating the paper with a light-sensitive gum solution, exposing it to an image, and then working over it with oil paints. The result is a one-of-a-kind artistic expression—blending the depth and richness of oil painting with the ethereal qualities of photography. The final pieces reveal soft luminosity, subtle texture, and deep, layered colour.
Each artwork is created on handmade, 100% cotton paper sourced exclusively in Indonesia, adding another layer of authenticity and texture to the work.
